Conference Season Is Upon Us

BY JOSE ALEJANDRO, PhD, RN-BC, MBA, CCM, FACHE, FAAN
I am excited to see everyone gather for the 29th Annual CMSA Conference in Las Vegas. It presents a great opportunity to learn, share ideas and connect with case management colleagues from throughout our global community. It is hard to believe that a year has passed since the last conference in Chicago.
Since then, I have had the opportunity to present on the Future of Case Management for CMSA Northwest Inland (WA), CMSA Chicago, CMSA Houston and CMSA Dallas-Forth Worth. Attending chapter events has given me the opportunity to learn from the membership about their needs as case management professionals. These discussions assist the CMSA Board in continuing our efforts to improve the value proposition of CMSA membership. I have represented CMSA at different events throughout the country and continue to take every opportunity to educate stakeholders on case management practice and the critical importance of the case management professional.
Kudos to Kathy Fraser, MSN, RN-BC, MHA, CCM, CCRN, CMSA Executive Director and Fraser Imagineers Chief Executive Officer, for the countless hours of planning this wonderful conference. We have a unique opportunity to learn from great keynote speakers, educational sessions and the ability to earn over 30 hours of continuing education. Additional learning is also available during the pre- and post-conference sessions that will demonstrate the latest in case management evidence-based practice. I am extremely amazed at Kathy’s commitment, effort and tireless journeys throughout the country to connect with chapter leaders and our members. We often tease each other on what is the best city in Texas. At the end of the day, we both share a passion for CMSA and promoting the role of case managers throughout the healthcare continuum.
At the conference, we will introduce the 2019-2020 CMSA Board of Directors, which includes newly elected Melanie Prince, MSN, RN-BC, CCM – President-Elect; Janet Coulter, MSN, RN, CCM – Secretary; and Dr. Colleen Morley, DNP, RN, CMCN, ACM-RN, and Tracey Armstrong, BSN, RN, MBA, PHN, CCM. We are privileged to have these colleagues join as board members. Congratulations to the new officers and board members. Professional associations are only as strong as the leadership, and I am extremely excited to work with each of the new leaders, who bring different strength sets that will benefit CMSA as an organization.
Finally, it has definitely been a great first year of my term, and I look forward to seeing what the CMSA Board of Directors can accomplish over the next year. I hope to see each of you at the annual conference, and I ask each attendee to take the initiative and meet people from different areas of case management practice and from around the world. As a seasoned case management leader, I network so that I can learn from others who have developed innovative programming and organizational efficiencies that could be of benefit to my own organization.
